We’ve recently started hearing cicadas again. A herald of the true, hot Summer, where we live, cicadas are so weird. With 17 year gestation periods, zombie making fungus, and left behind exoskeletons, water resistant self cleaning wings, cicadas are really really weird.
Our garden hasn’t had too many bugs, knock on wood. But here are some eco friendly insecticides if you need it.

In yesterday’s post, I didn’t get to share any blueberry pics. Although we have quite a few bushes now, we still hardly get any bc the birds and squirrels either eat them, or sit on them and break the branches. It’s a great tragedy of the garden life to go out and find a clump of berries broken to the ground. Luckily, when ever we go out to the garden there are still one or two bluebs left for us to snack on.

This was a really great article about a bar and cafe owner in Brooklyn trying to work towards sustainability. It made me think a lot about the industry and my own restaurant and what we can do to improve our methods.
It’s such a shame that pharma companies are trying to block alternatives to Horseshoe Crab bleeding. These creatures have been used for years, bled until dry and then returned to the oceans, but it has huge environmental impact that that is now known.
I’m not a huge fan of the Met Gala or anything, but when it was canceled this year, I enjoyed seeing “ordinary” people recreating their favorite looks.

This was an interesting article about how John Singer Sargent’s portraits changed over the years. I really hope that the museums will extend their exhibits as I would love to get down to Washington DC to see this show and the Duchamp exhibit that I mentioned in a previous OMMOFM.
What do you have in your pandemic pantry? There’s a few posts circling around about this subject and I plan to do one myself! This Mark Bittman interchangeable ingredient list was neat and Treehugger collected a bunch of their recipes that are pantry friendly.

I had never really heard of J Steward Johnson before returning to NJ and visiting Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. I found GFS to be a pretty surreal place and have wanted to revisit it. Johnson passed away this month.

Last week, we did some more leash testing with Irving. He didn’t try to bolt like the first time we took him out. But ever since he’s been more apt to try and run out the door! This will be a slow training, but I hope it eventually works! He looks so handsome in his red leash.
